Dermatologists Refutes Claims of DMAE creams

Winter is not good to our skin. The wind chaps. The dry air wicks. The combination blows us into the arms of the billion-dollar cosmeceutical industry, which awaits with pricey over-the-counter potions and serums promising to undo the season’s damage.

But these companies often promise much more than simple moisturizing. Their products can, according to their advertising, “help to boost oxygen microcirculation.” They can reset “the skin’s aging clock by converting resting stem cells.” They contain ingredients that can “turn on digestive enzymes that will only go after scars and wrinkles” or “help to promote collagen production.” In short, they can utterly transform your old, dry, thinning, wrinkled skin. Tempting. But is it true?

Roger Staubach: Cowboys Legend Tops Off Day of Quarterbacks

Roger Staubach Presents Lombardi Trophy to Green Bay Packers After Predicting Them to Win Super Bowl XLV. Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterback Roger Staubach handed the Lombardi Trophy to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to present to the Green Bay Packers on Sunday at Cowboys Stadium following their 31-25 Super Bowl XLV win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Staubach, considered by many to be a legendary quarterback in the NFL's history, won Super Bowl VI and Super Bowl XII with the Cowboys during his career. But perhaps more interesting is Staubach not only predicted the Packers to win, but did so using his current expertise in real estate to do so. Staubach is currently the Americas executive chairman at Jones Lang La Salle, a global financial and professional services firm specializing in real estate.

Staubach predicted the Packers to win Super Bowl XLV based on real estate vacancy rates. According to Jones Lang La Salle, teams based in cities with the highest real estate vacancy rates have prevailed in the Super Bowl almost two-thirds of the time since 2000.Perhaps everyone should have been looking at Staubach's prediction more closely before Super Bowl XLV, a Hall of Fame quarterback not only using his playing experience as a measure of the outcome but also his business expertise.

Eminem touts Chrysler 200 in Super Bowl ad

Detroit's homegrown rapper Eminem -- with his Oscar-winning hit, "Lose Yourself," thumping in the background -- will pitch the new Chrysler 200 in a two-minute commercial airing during the Super Bowl. The Chrysler 200 replaces the Chrysler Sebring midsize car, arguably the most maligned vehicle to ever come out of Auburn Hills. Chrysler needs the 200 to be a success in order to be a player in the vital midsize car segment. Midsize cars made up 15% of the 11.6 million new vehicles sold in 2010.

In the ad, Chrysler will sell itself as an upscale brand, asking: "What does a town that's been to hell and back know about luxury? "After giving Detroit's street cred on the issue, Eminem appears in the ad, at the Fox Theatre, and declares that this is "what we do" in the Motor City.Chrysler would not confirm Eminem would appear in the ad or say which vehicle would be promoted. In addition, a Claymation version of Eminem will appear in a Lipton Brisk Iced Tea commercial during the Super Bowl.

On Friday, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne hinted about the automaker's commercial: "I won't tell you what it's about, but it will be worth watching."Marchionne, who spoke at a San Francisco event associated with the National Automobile Dealers Association's annual convention, said Chrysler spent less than $9 million on the ad. Last year, Chrysler was the only Detroit automaker to advertise during the Super Bowl. This year, GM and Chrysler will air spots during the game, and Ford during the pre-game.

10 Best Movies About Hot Girls

10 Best Movies About Hot Girls

The 10 best movies about hot girls are comedies, adventure movies and some are even horror movies. If Hollywood teaches us anything, it is to never trust a hot girl. Learn a lesson by watching the best movies about hot girls.

  1. "Jennifer's Body" (2009). Jennifer Check (Megan Fox) is a hot chick with a very dark secret. This movie is just brutal with violent images from start to finish, but it is definitely one of the best movies about hot girls ever made.

   2. "Swimfan" (2002). This is more about the consequences of hot chicks than about anything to do with swimming. This is a very creepy movie and belongs on the list of the 10 best movies about hot girls.

New York State Unemployment

State budget officials forecast that New York’s economy will rebound at a “moderate pace” this year, with private-sector jobs increasing by 1.2 percent. Still, statewide unemployment will remain stuck at 8 percent throughout the year, according to analysis contained within Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s proposed budget. The state recession lasted 16 months, ending in December 2009, according to budget analysts. The state lost 353,000 private-sector jobs in that time—or 23,000 more jobs than the previous recession, which lasted twice as long.

New York lost more private-sector jobs per month, on average, than at least the past six recessions. The budget office expects the private-sector to add close to 80,000 jobs this year, with the largest percent increases coming in health care, education and the leisure/hospitality sector. Utilities, manufacturers and financial firms are expected to lead the way in job cuts. Overall, it’s a projected increase of 1.2 percent, or 0.6 percent below the expected pace nationwide.

Who Is Stalking You On Facebook? Who Is Your Biggest Fan?

Facebook has always been plagued with privacy issues, such as revealing to third parties personal information which may be used to sell you goods and services.  While to some, this may seem like an invasion, I like it when people try to sell me things, and I have no problem saying no.  However, there is a far more insidious algorithm embedded in Facebook.  By a few refreshes and a few clicks, you can easily see who has most recently been looking at your Facebook profile, down to a time frame of 36 hours, as well as who your overall top stalkers are.  Of course, they may not be exactly stalking you, but they are watching you.

National news program “Dateline NBC” will air a two-hour special on the 2004 Corvallis abduction and murder of Brooke Wilberger on Friday night.

'American Idol' recap: Steven Tyler issues 'apology' in Texas, returns to normal

Despite the pre-show hype, there were no blockbuster announcements on "American Idol" last night. Just a tongue-in-cheek "apology" issued on behalf of Season 10’s wackiest, and most unpredictable, judge: Steven Tyler. "American Idol would like to apologize for last week’s outrageous behavior by Steven Tyler," the announcement flashed on the TV screen at the start of last night’s show, the fifth audition episode of the new season. "Mr. Tyler has been warned and assures us it will never happen again."

Just seconds later, a new video clip was aired, showing a young Idol hopeful auditioning in Austin, Texas. He introduced himself, and Tyler was amused by his name. "My name is Jake Muck," said the blond-haired kid with the tank top, ripped jeans and baseball cap, who looked like he was getting ready to go skateboarding, or maybe jamming with an emo band. "You know what Muck rhymes with, don't you?" Tyler asked him. "Duck?" he replied, nervously.

UCLA’s own Stradivarius violin echoes with history

It is the Van Gogh of the musical world: part instrument, part art. It is the ultimate violin. It’s a Stradivarius violin. And UCLA (University of California) owns one. Over the course of the late 17th and early 18th centuries, an Italian violin maker named Antonio Stradivari crafted a series of violins that came to be known as “Stradivarius” violins, or “Strads” for short. These violins came to be thought of as the pinnacle of the violin world because of their craftsmanship and clear, powerful sound.

According to Movses Pogossian, a UCLA professor of violin and chairman of strings, the locations of about 400-500 violins of the roughly 600 that Stradivari was purported to have crafted are known. Pogossian said that the violins made during Stradivari’s “Golden Period,” usually considered the time from 1700 to Stradivari’s death in 1737 when the craftsman made his best violins, are especially admired .“Golden Period Strads have this uncanny power and pure resonance,” Pogossian said.

Japan Volcano Explodes With a Big Blast

(TOKYO) — A revived volcano in southern Japan erupted Tuesday with its biggest explosion yet, shooting out a huge plume of gas, boulders and ash and breaking windows 5 miles (8 kilometers) away.

The danger zone around Shinmoedake volcano was widened to keep residents safe. The largest eruption since it burst back to life last week covered wide areas in ash, shot boulders onto distant roads, knocked down trees and broke hundreds of windows in hotels and offices. (Read about Japan dealing with the volcanic ash from the day before the eruption.)No serious injuries have been reported since the initial eruption last Wednesday, but public broadcaster NHK said a woman suffered cuts from shattered glass in Tuesday's blast.

An Insight on Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian is an American TV personality, producer, actress, and model. She is the daughter of Robert Kardashian a lawyer of Armenian origin who defended former football player OJ Simpson, accused of murdering his former wife.Kim Kardashian remained relatively unknown to the public until Vivid released a porn video of her and R&B singer Ray-J. Kim settled with Vivid for $ 5 million after fighting the release was a lost cause. Kim later said this scandal was “not my most proud moment. It was humiliating. But now let’s move on. Not that I don’t think it’s [no one's] business, but I think I’ve done a good job of replacing negative things with positive things.”

Liverpool demand £50m for Fernando Torres from Chelsea

Liverpool are likely to sell striker Fernando Torres before the transfer window closes on Monday if they can agree a £50m package with Chelsea.

The Red could be open to a £40m cash deal plus Blues forward Nicolas Anelka, according to an Anfield source. The Reds have already rejected a £35m bid from Chelsea for Torres, who was signed from Atletico Madrid in 2007.
The 26-year-old Spain striker's transfer request was turned down by Liverpool on Friday. The Reds are angered by the timing of Torres' request - the January transfer window closes at 2300 GMT on Monday - and believe Chelsea have "tapped up" the player by encouraging him to express a desire to leave.

Torres has a £50m release clause in his contract, but this only entitles him to leave if the Merseysiders fail to qualify for the Champions League this season - so even if Chelsea offer a package of that amount, Liverpool believe they could still force him to stay. Reds manager Kenny Dalglish and the club's owners see little point in forcing the striker to remain at Anfield against his will, but are determined to hold out for what they see as a more realistic bid - and what would be a British record transfer fee.

Deepest Diving Sea Turtle - Their Secret Voyage Revealed!

Adult female leatherback sea turtle
On 2 February 2009, at 4am, a turtle known as Tika set off from the coast of Gabon, west Africa. She spent almost six months swimming across the Atlantic, a 5,000-mile (8,000km) journey to the coast of South America. At the moment she is probably somewhere off Brazil, eating jellyfish and building herself up. In about March next year, she'll begin her journey back to Africa, and, if all goes well, she'll then build a nest and lay her eggs in the sands of the Mayumba national park in Gabon. And this will be just one of many 10,000-mile round trips she makes in her 50-year life.

What Happened To Seal's Face?

One of the most frequent questions you hear about Grammy-winning singer Seal is, "What happened to Seal's face?"

Seal is famous for singing "Kiss From a Rose" and other award-winning songs. But he is also well-known for his visible facial scarring. Lines of scarring are clearly visible on both sides of his face. (To see a close-up image of Seal's face, click on the Related Link.)

Speculating About What Happened to Seal's Countenance

It is easy to speculate about Seal's scars. The raised lines of scarring look like something you might get in a knife fight resulting in scars. The scars might also look like scars from a car accident or similar mishap causing scars.

Jet magazine quotes Seal as saying: "People want the scars to be tribal scars. That's just the nature of the media and of people's imaginations." Source: Celebrities Who Have Overcome Obstacles, Jet, June 10, 1996, available at books.google.com.

What Really Happened to Seal's Countenance

But Seal's scars are not the result of violence. Jet reported that Seal's facial scars are the result of the disease lupus. At age 23, Seal developed discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE), a rare form of the disease causing scars. Source: Celebrities Who Have Overcome Obstacles, Jet, June 10, 1996, available at books.google.com.

According to The Lupus Book, only ten percent of lupus patients have DLE. Thick, scaly lesions appear on these patients' skin, especially skin that is exposed to sunlight. If untreated, the lesions can turn cancerous. Source: Daniel J. Wallace, The Lupus Book, 4th ed., Oxford University Press, pages 70-71.

Lupus is an auto-immune disease that is passed down genetically. It is unknown when Seal's Lupus developed. A number of on-line sources claim that Seal developed lupus as an infant or as a teen (e.g., as of April 5, 2009, Wikipedia's entry for Seal claims the disease presented itself when Seal was a teen, though no sources are cited). I have not found any authoritative source for that claim. As cited previously, Jet magazine claims Seal did not show signs of the disease until age 23. This claim is consistent with public comments Seal has made.

Discoid Lupus is a chronic skin condition of sores with inflammation and scarring favoring the face, ears, and scalp and at times on other body areas. The exact cause of this auto-immune disease is unknown.

Seal Samuel has a skin ailment called discoid lupus. There is a half moon scar that lies under his eyes due to this ailment. But this scar it seems had begun to form since his childhood days.
